How the calendar code works

A calendar QR code carries a complete iCalendar VEVENT. Scanning it offers to create the event with the title, location, description and times already set — useful on invitations, tickets and venue signage.

Times are converted to UTC before encoding, so an attendee in another timezone still sees the correct local time.

Questions

Which apps support it?
Apple Calendar and Google Calendar both import VEVENT payloads. On Android the behaviour depends on the scanner app; Google Lens handles it well.
How are timezones handled?
You enter local times and we store them as UTC timestamps, which every calendar app converts back correctly.
Can I make it an all-day event?
Yes. Tick 'All-day event' and the dates are encoded as calendar dates without a time component.
