How the phone code works
A phone QR code encodes a tel: link. Scanning it puts the number in the dialler; the person still presses the call button, so nobody is dialled by accident.
Always include the country code. A national-format number works at home and fails the moment somebody scans it while roaming.
Questions
- Does the phone call immediately?
- No. Every mobile OS requires a confirmation tap before placing the call.
- Can I add an extension?
- Some diallers accept pauses and extensions after a comma, but support is inconsistent. Printing the extension next to the code is more reliable.
- Why is this code so small?
- A phone number is only a dozen characters, so the code stays at a low QR version. That is good: it scans from further away.
