How the sms code works

An SMS QR code opens the messaging app with the recipient and the message body pre-filled. It is the most universal fallback there is: no app, no data connection, no account.

We use the SMSTO: format, which the widest range of scanners understand correctly, including older Android devices.

Questions

Will it send the message by itself?
No. The draft opens and the person presses send.
Can I use a short code?
Yes. Short codes work as the recipient, though they are usually country-specific.
Are there length limits?
The QR code can hold far more than one SMS. Anything past 160 characters is sent as a multipart message.
